Last night I finished inking my second graphic novel which also happens to be my second Missile Mouse book. At 146 pages it’s a good 26 pages less than my first book, but it was no less daunting. I tried to push the action, explore the environments, and expand the characters more than in the first one. And so far I’m extremely happy with it. I can’t wait to dig into coloring this thing. Deadline is in March so there’s a lot of work to do fast.
And these are the casualties of the war in graphic novel making. Each of these brave little soldiers fought valiantly for the cause giving all that they could give. Being all they could be. They actually still have a little ink left in them, it’s just the tips wear out before the ink does. Maybe I’m pushing too hard.
And here’s a little sneak peak at the first three pages:

So great!!! I love the accomplished feeling too! Looking at a giant finished stack.
I also have little burial rituals for my microns. Brave troopers!
Set course to scan and colors! Looking forward to seeing this on the shelf!

Son: I got my first Tweet, and it was from you about this monumental event. Congratulations! At least now you have an editor and published to say, “Quigley, Jacob, quigley.”

Sweet!
That cityscape looks awesome! I can hardly wait until it’s published. You’re going to tease us for a year, aren’t you?
You should totally make an object by gluing those poor Microns together. Even if it’s just gluing them into a cylinder to hold more dead Microns.

Woohoo! Congratulations, Jake!

Anyway, keep up the great work~

Congrats! That is just awesome!
The line art looks so good, reminds me of the stuff Philippe Buchet does.

I just started reading book one to the kids. I read it in one day. Could you make them a little longer
? I really enjoyed it and couldn’t but it down. I can’t wait to get book two for “the kids”.

Congrats. The pages look great. That’s totally cool looking at that picture of a stack of finished inks. Pretty neat sense of accomplishment.
On the microns, I had a similar problem in that the tips were not very robust. I since moved to Staedtlers, and they seem to last longer both tipwise and inkwise.

Congrats Jake!
Am I sensing a little Bladerunner homage in those first 3 pages?
Can’t wait to read it.

Must feel great to finish these hurdles! Book looks like it’s going to be a blast! I’ve been suggesting MM1 to all the schools and libraries I can. I think kids are going to dig this like candy!

Very cool! I am really enjoying the work that you post on your blog. Serves as great inspiration for the comic I work on for my campus newspaper. Feel free to check it out on my site. I’d love any critiques if you have spare time.
Once again, great work : )

Hey Jake!
This is great man, I can’t wait for this second book. My son and I are loving the first one, not done yet but soon. I’m amazed by your talent, you do some aweosme storytelling and I LOVE your mech stuff. I hope you don’t mind a little theft from me.

you should take a look at Copic SP fineliners. Replaceable tips. Refillable inks. Probably cheaper in the long run. IMHO much better feel/flow than Microns too.
Good luck with the book.
PS: accidentally posted this comment under your Martian post first. Disregard that one… =)

Hey Jake. My oldest son just checked out Missile mouse the star crusher from the library (Tucson/pima county library). He picked it out first, and when I saw it, I told him I know you. He’s 10 (11 in May) We both look forward to seeing book #2.
